05 Sep ORCEM II, and Casino II, coming to a voting both near you?

From 2007 to 2019, various Council’s and Mayors entertained rebuilding and upgrading rail infrastructure in Vallejo and Mare Island, also a Casino was entertained for Mare Island. Over the years secret meetings and emails were exposed and the phantom proponents of such projects were exposed. Currently the two owners of VMT were found guilty of bribery charges (Alan Varela, and William Gilmartin), and the land to build a Casino on was made available to our developers on Mare Island.

ORCEM, and the Casino went to sleep, waiting for another moment to rise up and stake their claim to City of Vallejo’s Executive Management, and our elected officials and candidates running to be elected on November 8, 2022. Since the death of the proposed cement plant and the indictment of the two Executive owners of the Vallejo Marine Terminal on Derr Avenue, VMT through a complicit City staff has continued to let un-permitted operations and work be performed at the Vallejo Marine Terminal, and land was sold at a loss to the Nimitz Group on North Mare Island.

Not to be out coincidenced, we have a tax Measure on the Ballot for “Infrastructure work” called Measure P that could possibly fund the reawakening of ORCEM in the form of coal trains, and a Casino on Mare Island. It is imperative that our elected officials and candidates for Council be asked point blank, if they support upgrading rail infrastructure, and support the VMT, and if the support a Casino on Mare Island. From viewing candidate forums, I believe the hosts are not asking the right questions.

Much thanks to Ruscal Cayanyang for calling out the City of Vallejo and asking them to put forth a resolution against coal trains, but I think we need to go further and have a resolution against casinos as well. Candidates need to be asked on their support of Rail and Casinos, and would they spend General fund monies to assist in the development of such businesses.
